What is Feeding Therapy?

Feeding therapy supports children who have difficulty eating or drinking to develop the skills and confidence they need for safer, more comfortable mealtimes. This may include support with picky eating, progressing textures, chewing skills, drinking from a cup or straw, and reducing distress around food. At Achieve Speech, feeding therapy is practical and family-centred. We focus on achievable steps that fit your child’s needs and your daily routines, so progress can carry over into real meals at home, daycare, or school.

We support children who eat a limited range of foods to gradually expand variety using gentle, step-by-step exposure and confidence-building, without pressure at meals.

If your child struggles to move from smooth foods to lumpier textures or solids, we help build the skills and tolerance needed for safe, comfortable progression at their pace.

For children who feel overwhelmed by certain smells, textures, or messy foods, we use supportive strategies to improve tolerance, reduce distress, and make mealtimes feel safer.

We work with families to create practical routines and consistent strategies that reduce mealtime stress, support participation, and fit real-life schedules.

We help children develop functional drinking skills, supporting transitions from bottle to cup, improving straw skills, and building safer, more independent drinking habits.
